Open path for Bose-Einstein condensates in space

QTSpace is represented by five researchers (A.N. Dinkelaker, N. Gaaloul, A. Peters, S.T. Seidel and A. Wenzlawski) in the international team, coordinated by Prof. E. Rasel, that has successfully produced a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) in space for the first time.

The microgravity environment offered by space allows to test the BEC’s properties with an unprecedented precision. They can also serve as sensors, and the lack of gravity will enhance their sensitivity in the observation of different phenomena as gravitational waves.
